Well thanks for all your great instruction and telling me about it.
For your information: SEQUX has 54.47% potential capital gains exposure, which is a lot. So it they sell (which may not happen, or course), one will pay lots of taxes, unless it is in IRA.
@finder, 54.47% is a lot of potential capital gains exposure…
.@rjb112: What software are you using to get overlay on M* Fund Snapshot ?
Regards,
Ted
@Ted, I combined two different screens so they could both be seen.
So I'm not seeing the overlay........
First I looked at the "Quote" tab on M*, then took a s…
@finder: Click on Tax at top of fund snapshot.

it is the Goodhaven/Fernandez personnel changes that I still have some concerns with.
I also had concerns with the now Goodhaven managers situations and also the Fernandez business.......that's one of the reasons I got out of FAIRX.
MFO Members: Neither fund will be here in 2016 !
Regards,
Ted
I'm in agreement with Ted's prediction regarding dead or alive.
Not so sure it will occur quite that quickly [within 17 months], but it is very possible.
Depends how patient the fund com…
That's fair enough Ted. FAIRX had one of the best performances out there, right out of the gate, upon inception. Bruce was Morningstar's manager of the Decade in January 2010.
Ted, I'm guessing that perhaps you used to watch Louis Rukeyser's show…

So you have a fund going long and short based on what brilliant people think should work and they would have been better off just going long (and the more heavily shorted companies, the better) for the last 5 years or so.
Remember the Long Term …
SEQUX has been great in recent years (from late 2009) until this year. As far as I know the problem is Valeant which is the largest position I think(till a few years ago the largest position was Berkshire)Since Feb. Valeant ,which has been in the n…

Sequoia to me would be a much more "get it and forget it" holding. Yacktman would be another option.
I also see SEQUX as being much more "get it and forget it", or "set it and forget it".
You have so many different analysts each covering different …
Thanks heezsafe, that sounds reasonable. Any idea why a bond guy (Bill Gross) would be managing a stock fund? Didn't sound like he would just manage the bond sleeve of the fund. Maybe the stock sleeve is on autopilot, and only needs an active bon…
I can't recall seeing LSBRX this subdued. Loomis is clearly concerned about something in a major way.
It's a good point, and I've always been impressed by Dan Fuss. I think his current viewpoint and his portfolio changes deserve very serious con…
"iShares also plans to shut......a nuclear energy ETF (NUCL)....."
May I ask who the genius was who thought a nuclear energy ETF would be a good idea, or would be successful. Apparently the etf industry defines a successful etf as one that has at …
@Bitzer: "If I recall correctly, Bill Gross make a similar prediction some time ago and was flat out wrong"
I know for a fact [because I either heard him say it or read it in his monthly Outlook that he writes] that Bill Gross did say something to …
Just my personal opinion.
I like the managers and analysts at Sequoia. I think the two managers are excellent, and they have a team of excellent analysts.
They have an investor day every year, and the document that comes out of it is always very i…

Excellent article.
MFOers, what do you all think of this?
Dan Fuss is as good as they get.........I look at Dan Fuss, Jeffrey Gundlach and Bill Gross as 3 of the most and possibly the most knowledgeable bond guys out there. 3 pillars of a stool..…
Hi rjb, the only way I know how to find trailing P/E at M* is to put the fund in a Portfolio Manager watchlist and set up 'My View' to include trailing P/E; it's one of the data points on the long menu of statistics you can pick for that page. -Che…
I was glad to see that Buffett purchased quite a few more shares of SU this past quarter.
Always helps when the Sage of Omaha is purchasing a stock you own.
Good info. Thanks for posting that. I'm following one of these stocks, and always like to see if Buffett has changed his number of shares of it.
Care to share which stock?
Yes scott, I purchased Suncor Energy quite some time ago, SU, and still h…
What does he do for risk control? It's been a great fund so far, but the trailing/forward PE's are up to 27/24 (per M* - the AKREX fact sheet doesn't mention P/E), so how much upside can there be left in it this market cycle, and how much risk is th…

When GMO refers to 7-year forecasts, they are definitely not suggesting that this change will happen for seven years in a row. On the contrary, they are very clear that they never make short-term forecasts.
So what they are saying is that seven …
Most interesting!
By the way, what is the difference between the role that Accipiter has and the role that Chip has at MFO? I think of them both as the computer and tech aces here.
I am thinking this event could be signaling a high for the markets.
Why do we need Faber, Grantham, Hussman, etc.? You have me.
60% correction is coming, buying opportunity in 2017.
I am the Vintage Freak and I approve this message.

Thanks Old_Joe. By the way, what was the inception date of MFO (roughly)?
Were you part of Fund Alarm before that?
I never knew about Fund Alarm so was not a part of it.
David, Chip, Accipiter, Ted, were they all on Fund Alarm?
That must have been…
My point, we need to applaud the true visionaries and/or need to verify if Grantham is also a BS artist. 7 years. I hope to be alive. I hope to remember to check.
Might I suggest a place on MFO where we can keep significant forecasts, by serious …
Forgot to add M*'s wide-moat index, MOAT.
Yeah, MOAT sounds interesting to me. Combination of a wide moat plus attractively priced. Sounds like a winning combination. And actively managed by the Morningstar stock analyst team.
