Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
Pondering GLFOX, WSBFX or LCORX as an alternative to typical ETF index funds or a go anywhere equity play. A bit concerned about GLFOX's run up and not sure how it would react in a downturn. Downside risk is always one of my top priorities with a fu…
Over the past few weeks:
Bought back into GLFOX after a long absence (low vol, great record, kind of a unique take on infrastructure, mostly foreign, doing well with the rotation into utes)
Interested in GLFOX too, but thinking I may be late to…
Hi VintageFreak,
Here's my take on your funds:
.....the good.....
BTBFX - FMIJX - GAIFX - BRUFX - BRTNX.
.....the bad.....
GAVAX - WHGIX - WSBFX - LCORX - So, what would I do? VWINX - and sleep well.
BVAOX - use DISSX.
BULLX - use PARWX.
GTSOX…
"I'm looking at the 5-year tax adjusted returns for RPHYX and it's 1.40%. Three years is 0.90%. "
Okay, but what are you saying? That this is better than cash, or that it's worse than more volatile funds?
I wasn't saying anything other tha…
Recently, I sold out of DBLTX and put the funds toward WHGIX. I was getting tired of mediocre to poor performance and an overexposed bond manager. The WHGIX profile was very intriguing to me, especially the up/down capture ratio as well as the perfo…
Incidentally, i do have a rather large portfolio so I do not feel comfortable paring it down too much. I feel more comfortable spreading my assets a bit.
Just having a little fun of course. I do see your point of view and respect it. There are some posters on this site who hold quite a few bond/multsector/multi-asset funds in their portfolios. I know I'm not alone. I'm attempting to whittle it down a…
Hi Ted, with all due respect, you remind me of that cranky old guy in Gran Torino who says, "Get off my lawn!" Otherwise, thanks for the limited input on this thread.
Yes, I'm trying to weed out the low credit quality funds as I have that covered already in my portfolio. BAICX and PGBAX seem like good funds but don't seem much different in credit quality than NWQAX.
The article says, "The funds' three-year annual average return is just 1.87%, reports one research firm." QLEIX must be an an outlier; the M* table shows an annualized 3-year return of 15.67%.
Same thought: I own QLENX in my IRA and it's doing just …
Holding a balanced portfolio, comprised of muni-bonds and stocks, probably makes sense for many people.
But, IMO, using the 'wrapper' of a balanced fund to do so, is not the approach I would take. Instead, I would own separate stock & muni-…
Thinking about selling my position in DLTNX/DBLTX as it hasn't performed well in the current environment over the past year or so. I get the feeling that Gundlach hasn't positioned the fund to benefit in a rising rate environment. The question is - …
It's commonsense to have some sort of moderator on a board. Unfortunately, not all people are able to police themselves. Anyone with experience on the internet should know this. I noticed someone earlier used the word "ban" and "censoring" for polit…
It's broke and needs fixing. The political discussions have monopolized the board to the point that investing topics are taking a backseat now. That's fine for The Huffington Post but not MFO. I nominate BobC as moderator although I'm not sure he wo…
The site is called Mutual Fund Observer, not Political Observer. The other alternative is to stop visiting the site and find another investment forum. There are plenty out there.
@willmatt72-
The title of this discussion, appropriately enough, is "Do I Really Have To Watch This?"
The answer is "No!" If you simply click on "Fund Discussions" under "Categories" in the box to the left on the main page you will never even see …
Really enjoy the threads about investing but the political stuff has hijacked the discussion boards. Just look at the number of comments on investing-related threads compared to ACA, Trump and the Media and this particular thread. This site is turni…
@Wilmatt72: Here's what I said: "Yes - if you want to limit "newspaper" to mean only paper copy, than I'd agree with you it's a disappearing breed. (And publishers themselves would prefer we purchase/consume their product electronically because it…
@willmatt72,
Re: "I've had conversations with several of the people who still buy newspapers in print. They made it clear that they do not enjoy reading the news on a computer or tablet LOL. They said they watch the news on TV or read the paper. Ol…

I live in a condo development and the paper carriers (I guess they still exist) leave the Boston Globe and Wall Street Journal in our lobby every morning. The snow birds who go to Florida every winter subscribe to the newspapers, and they are i…
I will happily confirm I fall into the first category (bolded), but vehemently deny the second - I have never, not here, nor anywhere, made the Hitler/Nazi reference with regard to the current president. I want him - or any president - to succeed…
First I want to thank all the board members who posted for being civil to one another. I've had at least one relative who has put me on the Dead To Me list for saying something positive about then candidate Trump. I want Pres Trump to succeed beca…
Now, if you subscribe to even one paper
I hate to break this to you but no one under 75 subscribes to a newspaper anymore.
