I'm not going to make a big purchase anyway.
But if the fund is not going to be "active" for a month or more, I can purchase one of my usual funds, or I can keep the cash until the fund starts is moving.
Cash > fund that is not moving.
Lots of ignorant statements are being made by a lot of people who know very little about what bitcoins were about or how they worked.
How much money did you lost?
I am trying calculate how much I can contribute in a Roth IRA based on my income. I know that my contributions to my 401k is deducted from my total income.
But I don't exactly know what my income is. Other than my salary I have my money in funds. I…

I stopped watching Shiller after lecture 3, but I found another course in financial theory, by Andrew Lo at MIT. Much better. I've already covered the first 7 courses, and by the end of this week I hope I will cover them all.

Reply to @Ted: I am really interested in what he has to say. I was so intrigued by his view, that I wanted to learn more. I had a very pleasant surprise to find the link this morning.
Thank you.
Reply to @cman: I know about communism and socialism more than you think. I am not looking to start an argument over political doctrines.
All I said is that I am despise socialism, and I find Shiller socialist. If you think that I am wrong and Shi…
Reply to @cman:
He is talking about collective risk management, not about individual risk management.
He is also talking about socialism as a good idea, but without a way to implement it because of the "moral hazard". That "moral hazard" is a defi…
On Monday I have watched first 3 lectures by Shiller at Yale University, without knowing who Shiller was or that he was a Nobel laureate. His courses are less about economics, and more about communist philosophy. The only reason he softens it, and c…
Thank you all for your comments, they are much appreciated. It was a very good starting point for trying to understand the way IRS is working. I am used to work with numbers and it seems to be really complicated, no wonder so many people are burned …

The correct answer to the problem, as formulated is: No, the odds are the same. For the answer to be yes the problem should sound like this:

Reply to @philpill: I added CLDAX, the date, number of shares and price. It says that I have lost $681, it doesn't seem to take dividends into consideration. Unless there is a way to give you the total return, it is quite useless for bonds.
SUBFX
There are two things that I don't understand about it:
1. It has a negative duration: -2.1 years
2. 30 day SEC yield is 1.24% but YTD (2012) return is 23.07%, aren't those suppose to be correlated?
Whenever I don't understand things, I remem…
Few things catch my eye after I take a closer look at the 4 funds on my shortlist
1. Why PONDX has negative cash? Is it borrowing money, does that mean that in a case of bond market depreciation, the fund will lose value even more?
2. DLTNX credit …
This is my portfolio right now:
CLDAX 10.90%
DLTNX 10.82%
MWTRX 11.10%
PFODX 2.76%
PONDX 50.35%
PRRDX 2.71%
STHTX 2.82%
TGINX 8.55%
I want to keep only PONDX, DLTNX, STHTX and maybe add MWHYX.
It is a taxable ac…
OK, so it seems that the average duration is more than just a number. USIBX is definitely something to look at, unfortunately it is not on the one source list of funds at Charles Schwab.
How about the first part of the question, is there any reason…
Thank you, very valuable information.
How do you measure how a fund will hold value in a case of an interest rate increase, other than the average effective duration?
Judging a financial matter only by looking at one measure seems too easy for me, …
I have checked my account, I was awarded 32.726 shares today. Overall I've made $16.71 with CLDAX today, Way better than losing
$574.
I've just improved my tonight's sleep
I have checked previous years, every time around this date there was a sharp decline and a dividend pay.
Thanks, I thought it has to be something, it couldn't have just fallen 5.6% in a day.
