The last week has been good preparation for playoff pressures....nicely done Tito.
Ouch..that really hurts. About 10% of the holdings took a 50% haircut. All the other holdings were also down. That's what a concentrated portfolio can you for/to you.
Won't sell right away, but may certainly reduce on a (dead cat) bounce.
Fantastic.
Nice and even summary by Conseulo. Full disclosure,
Classic, deep value investor.
Time will tell...should know in next few years whether he was right.
Trust he's applying same process to SHLD.

You could cut and paste this thread onto the one titled "What Should You Have Done Differently About Money In Your 20s?"
As have several others, I have adopted this approach for a subset of my holdings several years ago. I only wish I would have bo…
Yes, it's unfortunate. I used to watch the "FOX Business Block" on Saturday mornings, but anymore it seems like any conversation about business or the market is purely accidental .
LL,
This is a tough space to fill...one that I struggle with as well. I'm linking 2 threads on this same issue. SCMFX plus VASVX are the options I've narrowed it down to.
Good luck, and let us know what you decide,

You suppose Heritage would ever produce a chart using the "effective" tax rates? The chart would look dramatically different as many very profitable companies pay zero in taxes.
Thanks for the link Ted...I enjoyed the "life of Riley Index" articles, and have bookmarked Scott Burns. It's good to place a bit of perspective on the retirement goal (which is very close).

Ted...I'm a big believer in divi's as an income strategy, but cannot figure out why folks defer to a fund as opposed to a tidy collection of individual holdings.
When I bought VGHCX over 10 years ago, I thought I was buying something which was a bit boring, not too flashy in regards to returns, and a bit defensive in nature in comparison to the broader equity markets.
Even though I was completely wrong on t…
Mr. Dimon is believed to have the type cancer caused by HPV, or human papillomavirus, the same family of viruses that causes cervical cancer. Michael Douglas was recently diagnosed with this same type of cancer, and the prognosis is actually very go…
One thing I really like is when a fund kicks my market value tripwire, indicating a haircut is due...this happened with FAIRX and FPACX. I am simply reallocating the proceeds to an income sleeve and buying 2 new equity positions in KO and CLX
I need a macro key for 'everything cman said'.
Press, you have way too many funds and are doing expensive indexing, or coming close.
Appreciate the feedback, but not sure I agree. Of my 10 equity funds, half are bets on the manager, FAIRX, YAFFX,…
I've found the ebb and flow of divi payers to be very interesting...they really served as leaders in 2011, and also this year..especially the REITs. We shall see what happens when rates rise, but for me, the divi is where the focus lies.
Well, it seems I needed to provide a bit more detail here...and am glad to oblige although my planning may not be to the depth of many on this board.
My request was specifically for my 401K/IRA account. I mentally allocate money to different sleev…
I'm sure there are others. This analysis is too much for the media. I think many who are proponents of the the ACA do so because it make them feel good because it positions themselves as loving and caring people. Those that offer a differing op…
re Costco - They were favorably mentioned in a recent CBS 60-Minutes segment on prescription pricing. So folks would do well to check them out. Regards

Considering selling PRBLX and just buying individual dividend stocks a la Josh Peters. DE, MAT, F, COH, CSX, CVX, AMNF, BBL, APAM, TROW, INTC, CA, CSCO, ESV, TUP, HCP on research list.
There is still time to talk me out of this foolishness, so fir…
My last nerve got worn out on PAUDX and I replaced it with RSIIX. This was in a taxable account, and I'm using it as a holding in my pre-retirement bucket 1 build-out. I've held the same in retirement account for a bit, and have been pleased.
As an…
I'm one of the very few who are making out like a bandit on this
Hi Vert,
There must be many others making out like a bandit as well as being enticed to leave the work force prior to eligibility for Social Security.
That's me!!! Is there a prob…
Mr. Snowball...per M*, "As our baseline criteria, we looked at actively managed funds that have outperformed their benchmarks on an annualized basis during the past 10 years, that have managers or management teams with at least 10 years at the fund'…
Well Vert...I'm about the same age as you, and plan to continue my coverage at the Cleveland Clinic under the Affordable Care Act when I retire. Frankly, if I can buy a plan at around $500/month, I will be happy as a clam. I've not explored the deta…
Joe...medical expenses are the #1 cause of bankruptcies, so it will be interesting to see how this statistic is impacted.
Frankly, the ACA will allow me to retire early (hopefully later this year at 59 1/2) since I will be able to buy some insuranc…
Oh yes, and we implement a health care system which seems specifically designed to crush the middle class (not those like me, and perhaps cman is in similar shape, who can almost completely control their taxable income and therefore can make sure t…
LLJB... I have discovered that the "other somewhat popular website" is a reasonably good source of raw data, but a rather mundane source of opinion and advice. Frankly, I am more than pleased that there is limited (or no) coverage of the many funds …
So it looks like the oil from the Keystone pipeline will remain in the US mid-west as it current is, instead of the extension (XL) taking it to Texas for shipment to China.
I have got to think that the founders of GP are justifiably proud of their achievements...and their shareholders are also pretty much happy as a clam too. What a nice achievement for both. Me included.
And, kudos to Mr. Snowball for introducing th…
The last official act of a 9 year old Compaq running XP which I use for non-business activities was for doing taxes this past weekend. I will mothball it, as I bought a beefed up Dell a few weeks ago. So I'm good for another decade.
This is just a great set of tools...thanks so much for your work and effort in making these available. And thanks, I guess, for poking me in the side with stick to remind me that I jettisoned 2 D&C funds at precisely the wrong time.

On Wednesday, I bumped up a YAFFX position to what I consider a fully funded status. From where it was YTD, it basically was a bet that it will finish the year in the black.
