The last week has been good preparation for playoff pressures....nicely done Tito.
Hi little5bee , "a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step." Stop the sale of these weapons now and every year after there will be fewer of these mass murder tools available. Allow the sale of mass murder weapons as they are today and …
The action steps to make this happen will be difficult but not impossible. What is needed is political will, which seems to be somewhat lacking. The Congress is not aligned as to what the problem actually is, so no action is an easy outcome.
If yo…
The company release inferred a cut is in play. The best case is most likely to be a freeze at the current dividend level. The stock would rocket.
Of course, I am finishing up a nice Chianti, so there's THAT to consider.
@heezsafe, Last I heard James Madison was the author of the Second Amendment and he is considered a founding father. Nor did he intend for the amendment to apply to assault rifles and hand guns for every lone gunman:
Supreme Court ruled on this aw…
I believe the $ change and % of change is comparing the current distribution (for December) with the one immediately preceding it (November). As some distributions vary from month to month, this chart reflects that variance.
M* seems to run fine for me, with the same configuration that you tried. You may want to download the M* app for ipad. It has a bit different presentation than the main site, but works ok as well.
For the first time since 1920, The New York Times has published a front-page editorial. The piece is entitled "End the Gun Epidemic in America".
"It is a moral outrage and a national disgrace that civilians can legally purchase weapons designed spe…
It might be helpful to have a current study into gun violence, but a bill passed almost 20 years ago at the behest of the NRA specifically prohibited the CDC from doing precisely that.
It might just be time to revisit this, assuming the NRA deems i…
You cannot be serious. The terrorists "hate us for our freedoms" so we fight them by casting the tenets of our Constitution in the trash can? I was hoping that the Patriot Act would have been finally recognized as a surrendering of our values, but…
The people using the guns improperly are influenced by and/or instructed by those who persuade them to or tell them to use the guns improperly. That is why we need limitations on free speech and restrictions on the means of communication of su…
One of the goals of ISIS is to foment distrust and hatred between the Muslim world and the west. Demonizing all Muslims because of the actions of a few outliers who have perverted the religion, appears to be playing into the hands of the terrorists …
I'm going to Vegas early January, so my objective is to make up my losses during the trip. We all need objectives.
It's not been a pleasant year overall, but yin and yang are at work....some plusses offsetting the laggards somewhat. Down overall th…
I actually sold my shares in my taxable account for the same reasons as dryflower, but also sold in my IRA.
The hyper-concentrated portfolio can make this choice easy. Would you buy AIG? BAC? Sears? St. Joe? Fannie and Freddie?
If 4 of 5 are not …
Hi Bob,
To jettison this thread even more off topic....how did you like the Viking cruise? The extended family did an Italy trip earlier this year, and Viking came up in conversation as a future...so opinions would be appreciated.
thanks
Thanks davfor.
I'm not usually one to be alarmed or nervous when trends or statistics of that nature are pointed out, but that last sentence frankly made me sit up and take notice.

Thanks Ted....I liked the comment on the article:
"Why not put a link to Morningstar Prospects [for new/upcoming funds] on M* Homepage? Site search produces little on this newer M* service."
Why don't they just put up a link to MFO and save themse…
I remember the funeral more than the specific day he was killed, as I was just barely aware of the circumstances.
What I do remember the most was the funeral procession and the drums...those damn drums with their methodical and sorrowful repetition.
Exiting in taxable, keeping the holding in my IRA. I would say the taxable is permanent, as I need to de-risk a bit. While I'm still buying green bananas, my focus isn't sufficiently long term to take a double dose of FAIRX.
Shadow...yes, I am quite sure Bruce is happy as a clam that AIG generated significant gains. He failed to mention why those gains needed to be harvested however. This points out a clear risk for a hyper-concentrated fund which is unable to balance g…
Per the graphic in the article, 86% agree that the government should be able to negotiate drug prices for Medicare and Medicaid. I'm guessing that the survey did not include representatives from the pharmaceutical industry.
The Centers for Medicare…
Just got a note from Fairholme to indicate distribution estimates are available at the link below:
www.fairholmefunds.com/press-releases/
With distributions for FAIRX at a range of $11.55-$12.35 per share, I will be saying goodbye to Bruce within …
Thanks Ted...this was a nice easy read for a Tuesday AM, with some good high level thoughts.
I did like the following in particular..."Ultimately, an investor would like to have the best strategy using the best funds, but the truth is that it is ev…
The markets may react negatively Monday, but that is purely an emotional response. The markets have more than enough impetus to be squirrely without factoring the unfortunate recent events in Paris into the mix. I am not at all optimistic near term …
Old Joe...yes, I pulled the data from M*. Looking at my Schwab account, their presentation is a bit confusing. It looks like Schwab reports a YTD performance number both with, and without a 3% load. Without factoring in the load, the reported +2.78%…
In this year's difficult market though, it's 0.76% return for RPHYX, and -1.30% for SSTHX, about a 2% difference in favor of RPHYX. While I'm certainly less than thrilled at the deterioration in the RPHYX NAV, it would still seem to be a better pla…
A minor point...I bought both the Wells Fargo fund earlier this year at the same time as ZEOIX....they are neck and neck this year and both serve as solid cornerstones for a short term cash depository in my IRA. As a plus, SSTHX is available with no…
It may be a bit irrational, but I like the allure of smaller firms who have a specific focus and operate in an environment where they are under the radar to a degree. This autonomy affords them a measure of leeway in terms of following their specifi…
I'm thinking that the risk is low that oil producers will find their wares unwanted....though the geopolitical impact of the shift away from petroleum-based energy is fascinating to contemplate.
I suppose you could argue that the free market is hel…
Brings up some interesting scenarios. Is Valeant the only HC company doing what they do or will other Health Care companies (?in your portfolio) be accused of the same? Are the Citron accusations true or have they stretched the story for other reaso…
The referenced book was written in 2012 by Thomas Mann and Norm Ornstein. The title is, "It's Even Worse Than It Looks: How the American Constitutional System Collided With the New Politics of Extremism"

This is just a guess, but I think we may be able to find things which require maintenance without spending too much effort.
Guess ... guessing ... haven't we had a little too much of that e.g. Bush/Iraq!
OK....how about this. I KNOW we will be a…
