Barron's Cover Story: Europe On Sale: Time To Buy Foreign Stocks

FYI: (Click On Article Title At Top Of Google Search)
European stocks are cheaper than U.S. shares, and look ready to outperform. What's ahead for the MSCI EAFE index and Europe's banks.

    I couldn't access the article at this time, so I don't know what was discussed or compared.
    A general overview comparing SPY and IEV for the past 3 years.
    SPY = +33.8%
    IEV = -1.9%

    Note: SPY is about +7.4% YTD and IEV is about +15.5% YTD.
    So, yes; there was more value at a given point.
    ALSO keep in mind that after the market melt; the U.S. moved into quantitative money easing while the ECB maintained an austerity mode is may still be about 3 years behind the money curve. In addition, the structure of the ECB and Eurozone is not as is the Federal Reserve system here.

  • Emerging market has done even better this year; YTD return is over 2X that of the S&P 500.

  • Apple pie is easy? Bet you never made one.
  • @Sven @Ted Thanks for the notes. Not that I don't know how to follow a link; as the chart post is much more work, eh?. But, to the point I noted that the pc wouldn't open the Barron's link at the time and I had to exit the household for an appointment, so I did not read the article as noted before posting the chart.
    Just being the nice fellow to provide an easy graphic as an example for those interested.
  • Any favorite international funds that have a good percentage in Europe? I've seen Doubleline funds mentioned on other threads but we are restricted from investing in them.
  • Thanks. We're restricted from Oakmark too, but will take a look at the Vanguard one.
    What do you like about that one?
  • PRIDX has 42% in Europe and the rest in Japan and ex-Japan.
