Playing the metals

Howdy folks,

I continue to scale into a precious metals play using junior silver miners. That's always seemed to be where the most leverage was and it is today. Check the bullion ETF's such as GLD and SLV and compare them to the ETF miners like GDX and GDXJ and SILJ (+9.4% and 8.2%). I'm just added to EXK and continue to overload SVMLF, but am also holding ASM, AG, GPL.

From the kitco website, here are the gold miners and then the silver miners. Er, I would not recommend playing some of these for the faint hearted.

I try to buy the prettiest looking that are also cheap as they seem to have more room to run.

and so it goes,

peace,

  • Hi Rono - I'd feel better about GDX and GDXJ if they came down a bit, they strike me as having come too far too fast. I've been watching them but have yet to buy any of the miners etf's. The volatility is nuts!
  • @rono & PopTart: Speaking of GDX, it's Tom Lydon's ETF of the week.

  • Howdy,

Today surprised me. As the market rallied, both gold and silver stayed flat to down. However, my silver juniors all continued to rock. My star right now is SVM, which I've doubled up on twice. Others I'm riding are EXK, ASM, SVC (rat), AG and GPL (also still in the red overall).

The silver miners http://www.kitcosilver.com/equities.html can be some fun rides but you might want to use spec funds.

    and so it goes,

    peace,

    rono

  • Oops. I read that over and did not mean to imply that I've doubled my investment. What I was alluding to was that these are momentum plays and I've increased my stake in this particular stock twice.

    sorry,

    rono
