Vanguard lowers fees across mutual funds and etfs

    Top 5 by ETF AUMs are BlackRock/BLK, Vanguard, State Street/STT, Invesco/IVZ, Schwab/SCHW.

    The expense ratio for one of my Vanguard funds—VTMSX—dropped from 0.09% to 0.05%.

    Oh, darn -- now they have less $$$ to put into customer service.

    I've shared back here for some time, I'm gladly paying the extra $0.00135 per $10k (etc.) elsewhere per quarter to get decent customer service. Which is a shame, since Vanguard has several good funds I'd otherwise add to my portfolio.

    Vanguard continues to be abysmal, however. Penny-wise, pound foolish.

    And to add insult to injury, none of the Vanguard funds that I own had a reduction in the ER.

    E*Trade will sell you most Vanguard funds NTF. Also Schwab seems hungry to capture assets and has cut deals to waive Vanguard fees if you bring enough money to them. And one rarely hears complaints about the service there (though I'll shortly post a number of petty issues I just had with them in opening a bank account).

    If one is really interested in Vanguard OEFs, there are alternatives to purchasing through Vanguard.
