Nvidia investment into OpenAI

Not saying that it is the same situation, but providing money to your customers to buy your product and stay competitive, is what caused some huge crashes in telecom (circa 1999).

"The chipmaker announced in September plans to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI, a deal that would give OpenAI the cash and access it needs to buy advanced chips that are key to maintaining its dominance in an increasingly competitive landscape."

  • This sort of circular investment troubles me.

Question is show me the money ? In another word, how do they monetize products and services derived from AI ?
  • It's fashionable now to announce big deals to have 15 min of fame and press conference coverage.
  • There have been a few big articles in WSJ/Bloomie recently about the circular nature of the AI industry's 'funding' and in some cases yes, it does look like a ponzi scheme or 3-cup-shuffle game. Caveat investor!
  • Once kid's brains are embedded with AI, it will be worth a fortune. People will not be trained to think without the AI part of their brains. Privilege will include being able to afford the very best in AI. Affirmative action will become making decent AI available to lithe but underprivileged people.
