Think about this as Trump takes us closer to war with our NATO allies over Greenland:
If you are a senior officer in the active chain of command, you will be legally and morally obligated to refuse illegal orders from "Bone-spur" Trump and "Whisky" Hegseth.
If you do, you will immediately be stripped of rank, fired and stripped of your pension.
And if you don't, there will surely come a day when this "administration" is no longer in power, and there is a good chance that you will be stripped of rank, fired and lose your pension.
How would you like to be a senior United States military officer right now?

Military rank and pension can be reinstated once removed although it's a tough process.
Précisément. That is why if a majority of congressional members were to declare that any attempt to use military force in Greenland will be an illegal order, it will provide the military the future crutch to lean on if they refuse the order.
That situation will not be resolved by any long-winded court challenge. That situation is going to be resolved by a major political confrontation and chaos likely to result in removal of Trump from the white House. It will be very messy, but at least it will force a major change in the present government, one way or another, without an actual military invasion of a long-standing American ally, and the subsequent irreversible destruction of United States world relationships.
