Yoshinobu Yamamoto came within an out of a no-hitter only to allow a home run to Jackson Holliday. Then the Baltimore Orioles turned that solo shot into a four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 on Saturday night. “ESPN Recap Yamamoto pitched a near perfect game (
0 hits / 2
walks) and had retired the first 2 Orioles batters in the bottom of the ninth with a 3-0 lead. Leaving Yamamoto in that long was a tough call for the Dodger manager, as he’d already far exceeded his highest pitch count of the season. Not many pitchers throw over 100 pitches in a game nowadays. Yamamoto was pulled after the solo home run. Both Dodger relievers teamed up to give the victory away with several walks, a wild pitch, a hit batter and eventually the game winning single. The Orioles won 4-3.
I had wagered $1.50 (to pay around $3) on “over 7.5 total runs.” Late in the game I considered putting a large sum on the Dodgers winning as it looked like the over 7.5 wasn’t going to pay and a Dodgers win looked assured. Glad I didn’t, as would have ended up losing both bets. I’d imagine many did exactly what I was thinking. The ending wasn’t rigged, but if someone were going to do it, that’s how it might have worked out.

@Derf - The Dodgers have been my favorite team to watch all season. Yankees are also a favorite. And the Orioles probably my third favorite.
