If so, what % of portfolio. Continuous or short term? Are there other hedging strategies you employ on your own (as apposed to those used by your fund managers?

  • Get options approval & buy some puts.

Sell puts to collect premiums on stuff you want to buy at lower prices - you will be obligated to buy at/below trigger prices. It's better than limit-sell orders.

But hedging all the time is quite expensive.

Limit-down has another meaning, in commodities.
  • Chicks dig me because I rarely have any shorts on, but when I do they're something unusual.

    Sorry, could not help myself.

    All summer long in Arizona.

When you're running around like @DrVenture we call that the full Arizona.
  • Nice! Learning something new everyday. @WABAC
  • This Florida guy wears shorts 12 months, including when running errands in winter here in DC. Because, why not?

Market-wise, I have a single short SPX option trade on for the next few weeks, but most of my 'hedging' is already in cash / defensive / overseas positions anyway.

Thanks. Learned more than I wanted to.

I’ve made a few pennies in the past shorting some / all of the 3 major indexes over short periods (couple or few weeks). Luck. Could have gone either way. And the gains weren’t large. You’d have lost your pants keeping shorts on all the time in this market. @yogibearbull. I’ll need to learn more about options.

No. No shorts on here. Always "go commando." I try to stick to an overall plan in terms of stock-bond-cash weightings. It serves me well.

  • I wasn't sure anyone caught that, but I was pretty certain that you would.

It’s in the 90s here in Michigan. We wear enough to “cover the basics”. Some of the outdoor “views” are great right now.:)

Yes, bird watching makes the time go by pretty quickly. My favorite spot is Kailua Beach. Excellent, and not wall-to-wall people packed in like sardines.
