Why Big Tech Turned Against Democrats — and Democracy
"One way to look at all this is to say that the Biden administration was trying to treat technology as an ordinary industry that should be subject to normal oversight and regulation. But tech leaders, who still see themselves as special because they’re leading us to a glorious future, were outraged, sufficiently so in many cases that they backed Trump."

Without exposure to the P.K. substack, it makes sense that the Tekkie Wealthy Ones would chase after the lower taxes promised by the Orange Criminal. And if there is to be less oversight, that's a bonus to those guys. Orange has even floated the idea of simply eliminating ALL air/water limits and controls, effectively erasing the need for the EPA. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jun/12/trump-epa-pollution-rules
Getting big and dominant in the MarketWatch place in fine, except when the cross they crossed the line of being monopoly.
As I recall, Microsoft was fined by EU in the 90’s when Internet Explorer browser was bundled with their OS. Settlement was make that Microsoft to offer a second versions of OS without Internet Explorer. Many people prefer Firfox and later Google Chrome browser.
Quietly Meta in the worst. When there were outcry about disinformation in 2016, Meta blocked these accounts including Trump. Zuckerberg later settled the lawsuit with Trump in order to gain favor again. By early 2024, Meta took their fact-checking filter offline.
Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement this week was widely seen in news verification circles as a genuflection to president-elect Donald Trump, whose first term in office popularized the phrase “alternative facts.”
Meta is replacing its fact-checking with a “community notes” system reminiscent of X, where it depends on users to correct misinformation on its platforms. In a way, that hearkens back to “he said-she said” journalism, or the view of some political debate moderators that it should be the role of opponents, not journalists, to point out falsehoods. It also hints at something else: the notion that the loudest voices and the best-told stories can win the day.
Same goes to Twitter/X of Elon Musk. With the ability to fact-check information being posted, these social media amount to nothing more than propaganda media.

More recently, EU fined Apple and Meta. These tech companies wants Trump to impose tariffs do to counteract the allegations.
