Investment Acronyms

edited June 11 in Off-Topic
"I love a good investment acronym.
It’s not so much the ROICs and EPSs of the world that excite me,
but a clever acronym that spells out a word and captures a concept can really brighten a researcher’s day."

The author discusses several investment acronyms and provides historical context.
The TACO Trade receives added emphasis.

Obvious miss by Morningstar: FOMO = Fear of missing out

Yes, FOMO was an obvious miss.
The following acronym popularized by the crypto community also comes to mind.
HODL: Hold On for Dear Life
  • Not really heard since the credit crisis: SIV - Structured Investment Vehicles
Defined as an investment full of things you do not understand and may not be appropriately rated. That will soon smell like 3-day old fish. In layman's terms.
  • SWAN - Sleep Well At Night
Works similar to alcohol. In layman's terms.
  • SWAN - Sleep Well At Night

Probably not if it's a black swan... ;-)

@DrVenture, but we have structured MBS, CMBS, RMBS, ABS, CDO, CLO, IO/PO, etc.

Another unstructured miss is CDS (that's not CDs).

@Yogibearbull - Good additions to the list! I'd forgotten about ":collateralized debt obligations", that weren't quite as collateralized as we thought.

    @Observant1 - good point.
