The Baltimore Orioles, T. Rowe Price, the Carlyle Group, PBS and David Rubenstein

edited April 24 in Off-Topic
This could almost qualify as an investment thread. But I realize our standards for placement are quite high. So I’ll submit it in OT.

- David Rubenstein is co-founder and co-chairman of The Carlyle Group.

- Rubenstein led a private equity acquisition of the Orioles last August (top stakeholder with a 40% share).

- This promo from TRP describes Rubenstein as the “Baltimore Orioles Owner, Team Control Person”

- Rubenstein is also an experienced and skilled media commentator / interviewer having long worked at Bloomberg TV. He also does interviews on PBS. A new PBS studio (home for the PBS News Hour) is named after him. One may assume he contributed mightily to the cost. One may rightfully ask where any one human being derives this kind of energy?

What caught my eye after watching an Orioles game tonight was seeing the post-game interview with an exhausted Brandon Hyde (Baltimore’s manager) addressing reporters in front of a bright blue backdrop saturated with T.Rowe Price signage. The Orioles beat the Nationals 2-1 to prevent a 3 game sweep. I watch baseball primarily to forget about investing (and everything else). But here it was right in my face. Good ‘ol’ TRP with its legendary crappy customer service at that. But TRP is headquartered in Baltimore and I’m sure they do a lot of good for the city.
