Misery index ,,, what would it take to break the fever?

How much misery would it take to break the maga base. The misery index , a simple measure of bad times , combines the unemployment and inflation rate. Would a misery index of 14 cost the regime 10 percent of its voters? Of course if the regime calls a national emergency and cancels elections it wouldn’t matter would it?

"For at least the last nine years (and decades before with the rise of Fox News and the right-wing echo chamber) this propaganda and experience machine has created an alternate reality that has emotionally trained and conditioned its public to be loyal to Trump, MAGA, and the larger right-wing “conservative” movement and to reject any outside information or influences (their much-hated “reality-based community”)."

"Under Trump, of course, things will just get worse in terms of both the opioid addictions and in terms of wealth inequality. But that's OK, because the logic of sadopopulism is that pain is a resource. Sadopopulist leaders like Trump use that pain to create a story about who's actually at fault. The way politics works in that model is that government doesn't solve your problems, it blames your problems on other people — and it creates the cycle that goes around over and over and over again."

He may well maintain close to 40% no matter what happens.
  • ...what would it take to break the fever?

Require high school diplomas or GEDs for all MAGA voters?

Nah, they would only enroll in for-profit or religious schools dedicated to the goal of making them more ignorant but politically correct. On taxpayer dime, of course. GED content can change depending on who certifies and pays for the content.
  • Anna and Stillers. Thanks for making me smile. Think the anti politics nazis could find a connection between politics and their portfolios this morning? Probably not.

You are more than welcome and agreed.

And with all due respect to @Anna, I still think my suggestion would be a good start.
  • This is mine, originally posted in a different Off Topic thread:
I've become convinced (as with Max von Sydow in "Snow Falling On Cedars") that it takes a personal crisis or tragedy for the leopard to change his spots. A deep-seated outlook governing the way one looks at life and the way s/he simply "walks through the world" involves a deep investment of the ego. Many cannot face the internal shame in coming to grips with their years-long or lifelong Grand Mistake.
