Trump on tariffs: 'The stock is going to boom'

edited April 3 in Off-Topic
Following is a short current report from The Guardian:

Speaking to reporters on Thursday amid tumbling US stock markets and $2tn wiped off Wall Street after his tariffs reveal on Wednesday, Trump said:
I think it’s going very well. It was an operation like when a patient gets operated on and it’s a big thing. I said this would be exactly the way it is … We’ve never seen anything like it. The markets are going to boom. The stock is going to boom. The country is going to boom.

He went on to add:

The rest of the world wants to see is there is any way they can make a deal. They’ve taken advantage of us for many years … I think it’s going to be unbelievable …

Over the last nearly 24 hours, Trump has faced widespread backlash from US lawmakers and global leaders over his tariffs plan, with senior Republican senator Mitch McConnell calling it “bad policy” while Canada – a traditional American ally – called the tariffs “unjustified” and “unwanted”.
Comment- Well, he's sort of right- the entire stock market sort of went "boom" and blew up pretty good today.

  • As ever, delusional. Some outfits and some countries will kowtow to the Orange Organism. (Stellantis. Ukraine. Mexico.) But others, like the EU bloc, will not sit still for all the feces being blown at them. At some point, will the majority in the US Congress find its backbone? Not likely. How many millionaires are there on The Hill? (Ya...)

I've become convinced (as with Max von Sydow in "Snow Falling On Cedars") that it takes a personal crisis or tragedy for the leopard to change his spots. A deep-seated outlook governing the way one looks at life and the way s/he simply "walks through the world" involves a deep investment of the ego. Many cannot face the internal shame in coming to grips with their years-long or lifelong Grand Mistake.
  • I still find it difficult to comprehend why a guy like this is the leader of the (formerly) free world.
"The stock is going to boom. The country is going to boom."
    What an absolute imbecile!
But he may be right that "We’ve never seen anything like it."
I think it's a good time to get some sunshine (sometimes rare in the PNW) and go for a long walk.
  • Orange is either delusional, or trying to collapse the country while wearing his smiley face.

    Maybe a little of both.

This "patient operation" he speaks of....is it triple-bypass surgery?
  • +1.

His patron-uncle, Vladimir, is smiling through it all.
(A total non sequitur here, but: there is always open enrollment in the fraternity I belong to: "Mutants For Nukes." Our logo is the Happy Face with one ear.) We ARE in the Off-topic Room, anyhow.
  • That man has likely never shopped in a grocery store in his entire life. No wonder he thinks that groceries are kind of exotic. Actually he's sort of right- these days grocery prices are certainly exotic. We used to enjoy a piece of swordfish for dinner once in a while- it's now $39.95/lb at our local market in SF. No more swordfish for us.

A lot of truth. I drove a nice new Malibu in Florida. Not a bad car. But was amazed how much nicer the Camry rides and drives when I got home. A world of difference. Made me wonder the last time Trump had to drive himself somewhere in a car and if he has any idea why American drivers have flocked to Japanese and other foreign brands.

The best thing that ever happened to “made in America” vehicles was when the Japs began cutting into their sales and they had to clean up their act and start building better vehicles to compete. I’m sure you will recall some of the garbage Detroit was turning out in the 70s.
