Shorting Tesla

Howdy folks,

Just made a wee play with TSLS which is an unleveraged short Tesla ETF. They also have 2x and a 3x ETF available for anyone with more chops than me.

It's a casino play but a vote with my dollars.

and so it goes,

break out the guillotines,

rono

    @rono

I just bought some IAF (Australian equity market). Wanted to invest as far away from the stench as possible!

  • May TSLA drop like a rock. Good luck Rono! Shorting is for the very brave and nimble - but ok for "wee plays".
  • Good move @rono. You have a lot more stomach to play with Tesla.

We have been moving more US bonds to overseas debt, NRDCX. Our target is to have 40% invested outside of US. Next is more country-specific stock index.

You're braver than me! Over the past year I've been tempted to short TSLA but it's too easy for one of TrumpunMusk's friends (or Elon himself) to throw several MM into the markets on a whim to prop it up on short notice and thus get my face ripped off. (I still have a SPX short via ETF and options going, though)

@Sven: what's your take on EM debt? I've been thinking that might be a safe-ish place to move some cash out of the line of seltzer-fire with the major world powers.

  • @rono - You make one proud and I hope you make yourself a hugely profit.
  • Howdy folks,

I had already dumbed down our accounts. We've pretty much gone to the mattresses. No international travel, no flying unless it's an emergency (if we can't truck it, fuck it). That said, I'm still playing the junior silver miners and now TSLS. It's like hitting the casino for some blackjack.

    And so it goes,

    Break out the guillotines,

    Rono

  • be careful.
both momentum traders and musk fanboys looking to buy dips, and market will over-react to any tariffs delays\cancellations. actual tax cuts would do the same.

one experienced short seller stated look for a point where hardcore fans are so underwater, they will not add or return.
this may be somewhere near intrinsic value, which surveys ~ $30-$50 range. or calc your own.

Maybe rono isn't the only one shorting TSLA....

Multiple Bombs Found at Tesla Showroom in Texas

The Austin Police Department found “incendiary devices” at a Tesla dealership in North Austin on Monday, Fox 7 reported. Officials responded to a call at about 8:04 a.m. local time in relation to the suspicious devices at the Austin Tesla dealership. On arrival, the police called in the APD Bomb Squad to investigate the devices that were later identified as designed to cause fires. The security incident follows backlash faced by the Elon Musk-owned electric vehicle company. Those opposed to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) boss’ work alongside President Donald Trump seem to have succumbed to targeting Telsa cars and property across the nation. The Austin incident follows a case in which five Tesla vehicles were scorched at a Tesla Collision Center in Las Vegas.

  • this is MAGA-like unsafe, stupid, wasteful, counterproductive.
musk collects insurance vs. unsold new teslas plummeting in value w/no buyers in sight.
may soon cease trade-ins >20% KBB.
    stop!!
  • @rfono, I have had limited success with EM debts - volatile and geopolitical risk. So I will shy away from them.

I prefer European debts, especially among the Nordic countries. Professor Snowball provided a detailed write up on NRDCX several months ago.
