Flying was already the worst. Then America stopped wearing headphones. (WSJ)

I hope the link works. Article focuses on the increasing tendency of people to engage in loud conversations on speakerphone in public places, especially airports, and also to have movies blaring loudly while flying.

My solution was to invest in a beautiful set of Sony noise cancelling headphones a few years ago. Love flying wearing them and enjoying music stored on various devices. The “sales-pitches” over the plane’s PA system delivered by flight attendants (usually for some airline sponsored credit card) as we taxied for a half hour before takeoff around sprawling O’Hare was becoming too much for me. They’re great while awaiting flights in the boarding area too.

    This all fits into a larger picture. People no longer possess any sensibility about being considerate toward others. I know. Just ask the monstrously stoopid idiot who owns that barking barking barking barking dog in the next-door building. People want to own animals, and the rest of us pay for the fact that they don't care enough to train the beasts to live in the HUMAN world. Owners are oblivious to the existence of others, all around them. Utterly clueless cretins. I'm surrounded by idiots. Self-absorbed society, today. Everything should be directed toward my own comfort and convenience. And it's inconvenient to consider others with regard to what I do and how I behave....
