  • China does not want to buy western-developed vaccines at the expense of COVID outbreaks among the major cities. China’s vaccines are only 52% against Alpha strain. By now, they are even less efficient against Omacron 4/5. The combination of high population and lack of efficient immunization, They are revisiting spring 2020 again and this impacts their export business.

The Shenzhen area is especially important to western business because it is a major center for manufacturing and export, particularly for consumer electronics product. For example, Foxconn, a major supplier to Apple, has major facilities there.

    Edit: corrected spelling of "Foxconn".
  • +1. OJ.
Doinkbrains in charge. The reputation of OUR vaccine is more important than the lives that could be saved with an EFFECTIVE Western vaccine. ....... And remember: these are the very sacs of germs who obstructed and obfuscated and dissembled when the rest of the world tried to investigate the SOURCE of covid 19, back when.

This CCP strategy to work requires a lot of permanent brain washing of their citizens. But important to us is to reduce reliance on such brain washed citizens for critical inputs like medicines and other goods and services of national importance.
  • Yes, for sure.

There are many downsides to globalization and this is one of them. Foxconn is moving their plants to India and Vietnam to manufacture Apple products. Many tech companies are also moving their plants back to US.

Chinese’s version of mRNA vaccines failed in their first clinical trial. That tells you how challenging biotech medicine is and it is not something easily copy as a pair of sneaker.
  • More than anything, this vaccination fiasco makes me wonder if CCP is getting desperate in trying to maintain control or do we not know all the facts. It is only a $30B cost to vaccinate the whole population, a cost not worth mentioning. So, what are we missing? If this is a sign of CCP desperation, then macro negatives to the rest of us to follow? Something is going on below the surface the average Joe like us are not in the know.
  • Now that's an interesting observation.

Yup. Or maybe it's as plain as the nose on your face. We are witnessing Communist retrenchment. A new Cold War, after globalization stopped serving the needs of capitalism. Cuba somehow remains socialist. Could it actually be said Cuba is communist anymore? Educated population, so I hear. Anyhow, the mainland Chinese: there's a country falling backward in time. and uncle Poot-breath? A pox on him. Trying to resurrect the past, the old Soviet glory days. But they were always second-rate. Such a literary and musical heritage, though! My favorite opera divas are Russians. (At least Netrebko originally came from Russia. She's an Austrian citizen now.)

And on Christmas Day, 2018, I flew over frozen Siberia and Manchuria. How things have changed!

When all the facts are known, the average Joe may realize we are in more than a “Cold” war and this is not just a rank communist inefficiency. At the least, we may be heading towards a global recession, with China being at the center of it. Authoritarian governments act / react differently than true democracies during a crisis. I have to figure out my portfolio implications.
