The Taxation Of Social Security Benefits Is A Time-Bomb
This is very rarely mentioned. Morningstar did recently write about this, calling it the "tax torpedo". People should be aware of this, even way before they reach retirement age. This is an added advantage of the Roth as that appears to escape the shadow of this tax. It doesn't look like the traditional IRA or traditional 401k is such a great deal after all. Fortunately for me, I was never offered a 401k, but I still saved and invested in a taxable account. I just have to watch how much in capital gains I realize each year.
