Are we going to invade Iran now?

https://www.cnbc.com/2026/01/13/oil-prices-today-trump-iran-protests.html

"Oil prices rise 3% after Trump cancels meetings with Iran, tells protesters help is on the way"

They campaigned on no foreign intervention. trump built his political appeal over the past decade partly by vowing to extricate America from military quagmires overseas, promising to avoid “nation building” and wars designed to topple regimes.

Now he has toppled a regime in Venezuela, has already bombed Iran, is threatening intervention in Mexico, Columbia and Cuba. And has involved himself in Gaza only to support genocide.

Lots of foreign wars in the making. Probably a few more in the warm up circle. Do the dupes who bought his lies, plan to send their children? Planning to add $500,000,000,000 to the war budget is a big clue. They are going to need to reinstate the draft.

But, once again meddling in the Middle East? I am sure that works out fine. The locals just love that stuff.

Comments

  • trump, previously blasted fellow Republicans and previous presidents for backing troubled military interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. “Our current strategy of nation-building and regime change is a proven, absolute failure,” he said.

If his memory were not that of a goldfish, he might've resisted temptation. Or if he wasn't a total hypocrite.
  • I sure hope we don't invade/attack Iran.
It's always very "messy" whenever we get involved in Middle East conflicts.
  • I fear that he thinks he needs to spend those "war" funds somewhere.

"DUBAI—Iran’s Arab rivals across the Persian Gulf, led by Saudi Arabia, have been lobbying the Trump administration against a strike on Tehran, after the U.S. warned them to be prepared for such an attack." WSJ

Telling him NOT to do something stupid is almost certain to produce the opposite result. Organic Iranian regime change is the holy grail. Leave it to trump to ruin it for the whole world.
  • "Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar informed the White House that even attempting to overthrow the current Iranian regime would destabilize the global oil market and ultimately hurt the American economy, according to WSJ.

A White House official told the Wall Street Journal that Trump was unlikely to heed these warnings outright, saying, “the President listens to a host of opinions on any given issue, but ultimately makes the decision he feels is best."

It seems that the current Iranian leaders, and trump, think alike: "An additional source, speaking to Reuters, blamed “terrorists” for the deaths of civilians and security personnel."

"UN human rights chief Volker Türk said on Tuesday that he was “horrified” by mounting violence by Iran’s security forces against peaceful protesters."

CNBC headline: "Trump... tells (Iranian) protesters help is on the way."

Text of the e e cummings poem: "Thanksgiving (1956)":
    (remembering the Hungarian uprising.)

    a monstering horror swallows
    this unworld me by you
as the god of our fathers’ fathers bows
to a which that walks like a who
    but the voice-with-a-smile of democracy
    announces night & day
“all poor little peoples that want to be free
    just trust in the u s a”
    suddenly uprose hungary
and she gave a terrible cry
“no slave’s unlife shall murder me
    for i will freely die”
    she cried so high thermopylae
    heard her and marathon
    and all prehuman history
    and finally The UN
    “be quiet little hungary
and do as you are bid
a good kind bear is angary
we fear for the quo pro quid”
    uncle sam shrugs his pretty
    pink shoulders you know how
and he twitches a liberal titty
and lisps “i’m busy right now”
    so rah-rah-rah democracy
let’s all be as thankful as hell
and bury the statue of liberty
    (because it begins to smell)

    A.I. internet search:
"E. E. Cummings wrote the poem "Thanksgiving (1956)" as a response to the Soviet suppression of the Hungarian Uprising in 1956, which occurred during the same year the poem was composed.
Although the poem was written in 1956, it gained significant attention when Cummings read it publicly at the Boston Arts Festival in 1957, where he was the featured poet.
The poem was delivered with "Swiftian savagery," criticizing the United States' inaction during the Hungarian Revolution and satirizing American political complacency, particularly through the image of "the voice-with-a-smile of democracy"."

Maybe trump thinks he gets the Iranian oil fields, once he "takes control" and dictates terms.

@Crash Excellent poem. I always appreciate the work of "e". One might say that this work has direct bearing on Ukraine today, as trump "twitches a liberal titty".

I think you're right. We are living through a mountain of very shitty shit. But for Sudan, Gaza, Ukraine, Venez and elsewhere, it's even worse. And Orange child is busy, alternating active and tacit messaging, to blow up NATO. His uncle Vlad is pleased. Maybe he won't have to expose all of that kompromat...

The Orange felon needs to be in a matching jumpsuit, inside a cage.
