Snap election in the offing: Japan...


The yen is currently at its weakest level against the dollar in a year, hitting a low of 158.19 against the greenback on Monday, 12 January, 2026.

  • So, I just looked at EWJ, the iShares ETF. It's at a 52-week high on 12 January, '26. Much room left to run? Maybe get in before the expected snap-election? More recent performance numbers are better than the long-term numbers with EWJ. Surely, the election of Takaichi and her favored policies are connected. She's a stimulus-person, dove-ish, favoring stimulus ("debasement," in other words.)

    I'm in EWS (Singapore) instead.
