    In 1933, Adolf Hitler ordered the expansion of the Reich Chancellery, which later included a large reception hall that could also function as a ballroom. The plans for this expansion, which began in 1935, also included an adjacent air-raid shelter known as the Vorbunker, which was built beneath the ballroom's cellar.
