Louvre Heist

An audacious daylight heist at the Louvre targeted France's crown jewels.
The robbery occurred at approximately 9:30 AM (local time) after the museum opened to visitors.
The thieves used a bucket lift to access a balcony and then cut through a gallery window
where the jewels were displayed.
They were inside for only four minutes and escaped with eight incredibly valuable items of jewelry.

France's ministry of culture said the following items were stolen:
• royal tiara, necklace and single earing from sapphire set that belonged to Queen Marie-Amelie
and Queen Hortense
• royal emerald necklace and pair of emerald earings from Empress Marie Louise
• royal tiara and brooch worn by Empress Eugénie (wife of Napoleon III)

The thieves dropped a ninth item which was recovered later — Empress Eugénie’s crown, which features 1,354 diamonds and 56 emeralds.
