  • Thanks + a bunch.
  • Thanks, @hank.
I encourage those you appreciate PBS and NPR to sign the petition.
    It just takes a minute...
  • Done.
  • Done. Gonna need to be a lot to convince four Repubs in the House to vote against the cut.

I contacted both senators and got back a canned email from both:

    Budd:

Thank you for contacting me about public media funding. It is an honor to represent the people of North Carolina, and I appreciate the opportunity to hear from you on this issue.

As you know, Congress established the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) through the Public Broadcasting Act in 1967. The CPB oversees and distributes federal funding to more than 1,500 public radio and television stations. In Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) CPB received a federal appropriation of $535 million.

Please know, I will keep your views in mind as I review any potential changes to government funding.

    Tillis:

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts regarding funding for public media. I appreciate hearing from you.

I recognize that public broadcasting plays a key role in delivering news, weather, and emergency information across North Carolina and the country. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), a nonprofit managing federal investments, provides funds to both the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR).

Established by the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967, CPB transformed information sharing, but today, public broadcasters face strong competition from commercial media. Commercial broadcasters now offer quality educational, world and local news, and entertainment programming. Given this new landscape, we must find economically-sound solutions and do not impose any additional burdens on the taxpayers. The challenge for us today is funding federal programs in fiscally responsible ways in light of our crushing national debt and increasing liabilities.

Please know that as the Senate considers federal funding for public media, I will keep your views in mind. Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me about other issues that are important to you.

  • Dem or Rep, pretty much the same, always. The difference is that the Dems are not trying to destroy the country.
