US to implement 104% tariff on China as Trump-imposed deadline passes

Following is a very short current report from The Guardian:

US to go ahead with imposition of 104% tariff on China from Wednesday after Beijing did not lift retaliatory tariffs
The United States will impose a 104% tariff on China from 12:01am ET (12:01pm China Standard Time) on Wednesday, a White House official said after Beijing did not lift its retaliatory tariffs on US goods by a noon Tuesday deadline set by Donald Trump.

If only the buffoon understood (tariff basics and) that China has (paraphrasing AEI's Derek Scissors from 04/07/25) perfected locating and using the entry routes that make US tariffs on China in large part meaningless to them.

We naively assumed that admitting China into the WTO would increase democracy in that country.
This did not come to fruition.
China has often flouted WTO rules to their advantage.
The country promoted its exports but largely closed its own market to foreign goods.
There were forced technology transfers to steal technological knowledge from foreign companies
operating within China. State subsidies were provided for Chinese industries and certain Chinese goods
were subsequently "dumped" in other countries.
I would support a thoughtful plan to inflict maximum pain upon China (not the entire world)
while minimizing the impact to the US.
Unfortunately, I have not seen such a plan and am skeptical the current administration can devise one.

Admitting China into the WTO helped to elect Donald Trump in our country.
    This did come to fruition.
Admitting China into the WTO decreased democracy in this country.
