Gene Hackman Deceased

edited March 1 in Off-Topic
Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their New Mexico home several days ago.
Mr. Hackman was one of the greatest actors of his generation.
I particularly appreciated his performances in The French Connection, Unforgiven, and Mississippi Burning.

Found dead TOGETHER? Sounds quite unusual. I'm saddened. One of three dogs was found dead, too. Arakawa sounds Native Hawaiian. Anyone know for sure? I know someone here with that surname. ....Edit to add: yup, I was right. I'm so smart, I hate myself.

"...was born in Hawaii in December 1959 and grew up in Honolulu..."

Hackman was the anti-hero sub commander in Crimson Tide. He expertly portrayed the stinking bad guy in The Quick & The Dead. And "Popeye" Doyle: "D'you pick yer feet in Poughkeepsie?"
  • Hackman is an incredible actor, who played many roles in memorable movies. NPR listed many of them that spanned way back in Bonnie & Cycle.

RIP. Many of us will miss you.

  • Such a sad ending to such a wonderful life. I expected better but don't ask me why. His portrayal's of characters in the many movies he acted in never made me wonder if he was the real deal. He seemed to live a wildly varied and distinguished life far away from the bright lights. RIP Gene, Ya done good.
