Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
I appreciate David Snowball writing the section, "Giving back, paying forward …". Now that I am in retirement, I volunteer 24 hours per week at Habitat For Humanity and Neighbor To Neighbor. Payments from Seeking Alpha are donated to non-profits.
Good for you, Lynn. Volunteerism makes the nonprofit world go round, and it's sorely needed because, even with mostly sane government, public goods are seriously underfunded. Current madness will make that even more indispensable.
I volunteer 3-4 days a week for an education nonprofit. For charitable donations, I'm using QCDs out of IRA RMDs almost exclusively since the standard deduction climbed above any itemized total I'll ever have again.
Beyond volunteer activities and QCDs from IRA, consider DAFs. By bunching deductions in some years, you can get a good boost from Itemized deductions for contributions to DAF.

I contribute my time, materials and money to Doctors Without Borders, Why Hunger, Habitat For Humanity and the local Animal Humane Society.
