  • Maybe this is for the better. Jean Hynes could not fill Ed Owens shoes, she seldom beat Vanguard Health Care Index and adding insult to injury, highly tax inefficient if held in a taxable account.
  • We left the fund when Ed Owen’s retired. Now we hold VG index instead. Today VHT is holding up well while S&P500 is down over 1%.

The Health Care Fund generated excellent returns during Ed Owens's tenure.
I wish I had owned it back then!
Last time I checked (perhaps 1.5 yrs. ago), performance during Ms. Hynes's tenure was middling.

A fund that has had amazing risk/reward over the years (minus recent years). Linked here is a MFO/Fund Alarm discussion regarding VGHCX. A fund that is hopefully on the "mend":

  • Hynes was a disaster. Couldn't beat Vanguard's own index!
Vanguard Independent Advisors identified this problem many years ago
  • as a big wellington fan, i hope she has real admin skills.
