Democrats are losing the PR battle and the actual battle on this. Striking that a GOP House majority of 5 seats can call the shots over a Democrat controlled Senate and WH. What were the Dems smoking when they intentionally chose to not take any action on the debt ceiling between Nov and January when Dems controlled all of DC. Dems are the party of stupid when it comes to political maneuvering.
Dems are looking pretty stupid here ---> negotiating hard after months of clean debt ceiling raise stance and now reportedly agreeing to more military spending, reducing IRS budgets and cuts to other programs to make way for increased military spend.
McCarthy, McHenry, Graves are all out there giving daily press talks and Dems have nobody prominent doing the same. GOP pulled their s##t together and Dems are literally giving away the chips.

I don't share your opinion, based on a wide array of news sources I follow.
@hank Yep but anything (or most things) that go beyond a few pages head off page in some way or the other even if it's just a bond discussion turning into oil stock on page 5.
This thread would have been significantly censored at Bogleheads. So thank you to our hosts for allowing this discussion. Much appreciated.
As a source of investment wisdom, MFO is top-notch. As politics goes, it’s strictly second-rate. I can watch and listen to much better on cable. Those outlets feature highly paid, highly skilled, knowledgeable and articulate rabble-rousers. Sean Hannity on Fox plays the game to perfection. Worth every dollar they pay him. Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC is impressive. Chris Cuomo on NewsNation ain’t bad at the game either.
We all come here for different things, so feel free to call each other’s side names or besmirch each other’s political party if you want. Just not a reason for some of us to log in.
I'm puzzled at the comparison between the commentary on a forum like this composed of individuals vs. the hacks on the "news" networks whose agenda isn't to actually serve objective news and commentary to the public but deliver eyeballs and $$ to their masters through any means.
Apparently, Trump is being consulted on the debt talks.
Speaker McCarthy said on Thursday that he spoke with Trump about the debt ceiling negotiations as time runs out for an agreement to avoid a government default.
Hehe, Freedom Caucus, specimens like Chip Roy and the greatest Prez of all time control a lot more of McCarthy than his ears!
McCarthy was kissing Trump's ring less than 4 weeks after J6. And this after strongly "denouncing" Trump actions on J6.
The trouble isn't the politicians. It is the nature of politicians to be d@@g beetles. The trouble is with about half of the GOP that puts Trump on a pedestal and accepts any action or utterance from him as Christ reborn AND the other silent half of the GOP who may not agree to kiss the ring but by their inaction enable the magats.
The rise of Trump and the magats have clearly revealed that there's a lot more of single issue voters than desirable in society and that single issue worship justifies putting a deranged guy into WH a second time. Women voting for Trump to keep the suburbs "clean" and eliminate abortion despite Trump's well documented history of misogyny speaks volumes. At this rate, quite literally a d##g beetle is acceptable as President as long as the beetle commits to racial discrimination, elimination of choice and state enforced religion. There's plenty in the GOP who are on par or more toxic than Trump -- Abbott, Cotton, Cruz, DeSantis, etc..
@stayCalm. Thank you for your comments. I am certain we agree that perhaps a third of the country are 100% behind these facists. That is THE problem. If anyone else here remembers being in the movement in the sixties, we were quick to call those who were not are our team facists. But now we have the real thing in our midst.

Oh well, to each their own.

After all, who knows more about debt than Trump!

Interesting article on investing in this market period
McCarthy was kissing a lot more than his master's ring.
