Just shocking. Yes - control tower error. But ISTM the one landing should have been able to detect the other one earlier than that visually or on radar. But just the opinion of an uninformed observer. Maybe not if the SW jet began its rollout from the same end of the runnway the FedX was landing on. We did a go-around landing in Tampa years ago and the pilot reported it had been because of another plane still on the runway. But pretty routine procedure. Nothing like this near tragedy.
PS - SW pilots have long had a reputation as “cowboys” - always pushing the limits to save time. Probably just did a “rolling takeoff” rather than stopping momentarily after turning from taxiway onto runway. If the case, might want to revisit that procedure.
