I'm well aware of the general situation with Bolsonaro in Brazil, but to be truthful, there's so much other truly awful stuff going on that that's really far down on my list of things to worry about. So he cuts down the Amazon forest... the way things are going that's not really going to make much of a difference one way or the other anyhow.
True, but the whole violent fascist thing in one of the world's largest democracies is problematic. Unlike Trump, Bolsonaro has deep ties with Brazil's military and says that if he loses the upcoming election, he won't leave.
no more Abyssinias to conquer, though, eh? The EU truly must at some point get its arms around the immigration crisis. But how? The same question can be asked re: the immigration crisis at the US southern border. I do believe the rise of the Right in Europe is in large part due to that problem. Any sense of a cohesive common European identity and culture is dripping away at an increasing pace, day by day. Yes, compassion must not be forgotten and thrown away. But there needs to be some REAL expectations required of African and Middle Eastern immigrants, whether legal or illegal. Europe's internal open borders make it all the more difficult.
The ACTUAL way to fix the problem is for all those people to remain in their home countries, because their home countries are places worth living in. Those countries need to become 1st-world countries. Crime, violence, incompetence and corruption must be addressed and buried. ...... So many of those places rightfully wanted independence. They did not want to be colonies anymore. But they've become shit-hole countries. (Sigh.)
Yes, as noted many times before: Mr. Market owns no conscience. PEOPLE ought to, though. But not everyone got the memo, like the Trumpster and a host of others.
