@Sven- yes, they certainly did. Your report is dated 9/7, almost a week ago, and newer reports seem to confirm that the Ukrainians have done very well, albeit with terrific personnel losses.
You are absolutely right that news are moving fast over there. It is very encouraging to see they are making solid progress. Ukrainian soldiers and civilians are paying dearly in this war. There is not as much coverage on their suffering and human tolls. NPR does a good job keeping news fresh. https://npr.org/2022/09/12/1121300596/russia-ukraine-war-a-weekly-recap-and-look-ahead-sept-12
When this war is over, there is lots to rebuild of Ukraine and their citizens.
Looks like Russia seriously underestimated the state of the art capabilities of U.S. reconnaissance and battlefield weapons systems. The extent to which these have played a part in those images will someday be known. Not to downplay the courageous Ukrainian people; but the broader question (to me anyway) is where this all leads in 5 or 10 years in terms of the ever shifting power dynamics among global superpowers.
Ukrainians are fighting for their country to stay sovereign while the Russian soldiers are fighting for their paycheck. Some new recruits are not inform they are going to foreign land. Very different motivation. Russian military tactics has not evolved much from that of former Soviet where a top down central command drives the troop engagement. Not so efficient but it keeps the troop in line. Ukrainian military has evolved when they trained with western countries and the results are been seen today in conjunction with advanced weapons and modern tactics.
Question at what point this war will end? By the way, China’s military follows the Russian doctrine and Taiwan and other Asian countries are watching closely of this Ukrainian war.
It's been said before: there's going to have to be a HUGE Marshall Plan for Ukraine, after this is over. In the meantime: Northrup, Textron, Boeing, BAE, Lockheed......
Al Jazeera: "...Although the United States has rebuffed requests for the 297km (185-mile) range ATACMS missile, the GLSDB’s 150km (94-mile) range would allow Ukraine to hit valuable military targets that have been out of reach, and help it continue pressing its counterattacks by disrupting Russian rear areas."
.....Then why hasn't some GENIUS somewhere arranged for the Ukrainians to HAVE that capability already, sooner? Surrounded by idiots.

On the energy front, Europe is facing a tough situation. And the winter is several months away.

No better than Tojo or any of the others, going back in time since... forever. Lavrov = suck-bag, along with the Poot-fart.
