A lot of economists practice some form of market timing in making themselves relevant and popular. If you are looking for outside the box thinking for solving social and economic problems, Raghuram Rajan’s works might interest you. His views and prescriptions are always ahead of the times and thus do not jive with populists but in retrospect he made sense.
