Free Tax Software

Just finished my 2019 Federal Tax return using a free tax software offered through this link (IRS website).

I went with FreeTaxUSA and it was able to handle all of my forms. State return would have been $12.95 which I didn't need to file (Florida).

Worked well for me. I used TT over the last few years. FTUSA did not have the export / import feature TT had with many of my financial institutions. My forms were simple to hand fill. There also a income limit on "free"...I believe AGI of $36K for single filer.
  • A few financial institutions provide free TT to those with enough assets held with them:
    • T. Rowe Price: Personal Services clients are provided free Turbotax Deluxe Online
    • Fidelity: some investors, unknown criteria (rumored to be Private Client plus something) are provided free Turbotax Premier.
