Howdy folks,

Gold and silver have broken out huge led by mining stocks. The XAU is up 8.25 to 224.14 as I write, silver is over $39 and crowding $40, and gold is at a new all time high of $1453.

Note that GDXJ (junior gold miners) and SIL (silver miners) are up 4.6% and 3.3%, resp.

Life is good.

Any reason for the Gold/silver breakout today? All the sudden both went up in a hurry. I heard something about a govt. budget not being approved.

there are a number of reasons, but the very real possibility of the U.S. gov't. shutting down Friday would have a positive effect on pm prices.
