It looks like 2020 may be a more muted year for the markets than 2019, which saw broad growth across asset classes. But there’s still potential for gains if you know where to look. In this week’s cover story, Barron’s surveyed 10 strategists for their outlook on the themes and forces driving markets next year. They see an average rise of 5% for the S&P 500 in 2020. Add in a roughly 2% dividend yield, and U.S. stocks could deliver a total return of about 7%. But several strategists see greater opportunities outside the U.S.
