Cued by your comments and our story on Leuthold Global, I wondered how many times Zacks weighed-in on funds "without even doing any in-depth analysis."
319, apparently, since that's the number of hits for a search of that exact phrase with the site-limiter finance.yahoo.com. This morning they declined to do any IDA on Janus Henderson Emerging Markets, but only on the "C" class shares. While they brag about tracking 19,000 funds daily - uhh, there aren't 19,000 funds, there are 7200 of them though some have over a dozen share classes - none seem to have warranted IDA. For example, the "A" share class of the same fund has been a distinctly above-average performer in six of the past eight years. The minuscule "C" share class - 2.1% e.r., $3 million AUM - should go away, but that says nothing about the fund itself.
