Josh Brown: The Ancient Relationship Between Financial Advice And FinTech: Video Presentation

FYI: Josh here – Our friend Jamie Catherwood of O’Shaughnessy Asset Management came by The Compound to speak with Michael and I about the ancient relationship between financial advisors and FinTech. Advisors have been operating for thousands of years – Jamie unearthed some cuneiform tablets depicting the first attempt at modeling the income from a herd of cattle.

There are examples of financial advice being given in ancient Egypt through the present. As long as people have had money, they’ve had a need for someone to help them allocate some of it for the future.

FinTech has a parallel history that goes along with this story – as technology evolves, advisors make increasing use of it to deliver financial advice and other services. Jamie talks about the advent of the ticker a hundred and twenty years ago as being an important example of this phenomenon.

Ted
