FYI: Funds focused on stocks with growing dividends have trumped those emphasizing higher yields so far this year, results that reflect two big market trends: a love for tech stocks and a relative aversion to value stocks.
Take, for instance, the performance of the Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF (ticker: VIG) and the ProShares S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrats ETF (NOBL). Both funds are replete with dividend payers, but the Vanguard fund returned 22% through Aug. 30 and the ProShares fund returned 16%.
