Vanguard Supervisor Sentenced To Four Years For Fraud
FYI: A former employee of the Vanguard Group was sentenced to four years in prison yesterday for a $2.1 million fraud scheme he perpetrated while working at the company.

"“No matter what the source of income, all income is taxable,” said Guy Ficco, IRS Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge. “Scott Capps failed to report the money he stole and that is a violation of the federal tax laws."
I wondered why he wasn't convicted of simple embezzlement. " He admitted that through his employment he had access to dormant accounts." That's what you need for embezzlement.
The reason is that this was federal prosecution, so he was only tried for federal crimes like mail fraud, and not state crimes like vanilla embezzlement.

The whole scheme is like something out of the movie, Office Space. Steal a few cents in every transaction that amounts to a big pot of money until... You need to watch this low budget but funny movie.

White collar criminals have the resources to hire good lawyers.
