As Emerging Markets Recover, Here’s What Investors Need To Know

FYI: Emerging markets are bouncing back—but before fund investors plunge in, there are some things they should know.

Last year was rough for emerging markets and their smaller, less-developed counterparts, “frontier” markets. Global trade tensions and volatility in the markets meant that many of those funds linked to those markets underperformed.

Now the MSCI Emerging Markets Index is up 3.9% through July 31, and frontier markets are also showing signs of strength—the MSCI Frontier Markets Index was up 12% through June 28, the latest monthly figure available.

For investors considering ETFs in these sectors, here’s a look at what they offer, what strategies are useful—and what to watch out for.
