Brian McCabe, partner at Ropes & Gray Asset Management, talks with Bloomberg's Taylor Riggs about the "Precidian" model, the legality surrounding nontransparent funds and possible mass conversion of mutual funds to ETFs. Various firms are now making use of the Precidian Investments’ structure for exchange-traded funds that conceal their holdings. This year regulators cleared a pathway for the products after a multiyear wait, and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approved the structure last month.
