White House explored legality of demoting Fed Chairman Powell

edited June 2019 in Off-Topic
Bloomberg Exclusive

“A Bloomberg report says the White House explored demoting Chairman Powell and that White House council weighed implications of a demotion. It's not clear if Trump directed the review, which took place in February. The path that was explored was leaving him as Governor but removing his chairmanship. It would have been an unprecedented move and highlights that Trump's comments about Powell went beyond musings and that his future could be in jeopardy.”

  • @MFO Members: I wonder if the poster knows the expense ratio and the number holdings in the Powell Mutual Fund ?
    Regards,
    Ted
  • Probably as many as there are in a unicorn.

  • Interesting timing, this leak.

Bananna republic land, to be sure. So much #winning he's gotta fire his pollsters and demote anyone who doesn't immediately and blindly do his bidding, regardless of consequences. Pathetic.

Note to self: (1) Federal Reserve has nothing to do with interest rates. (2) Interest rates have nothing to do with equity valuations. (3) Equity valuations have nothing to do with equity mutual funds (especially if you own none). (4) Interest rates haven’t changed in a year - but if they had, it wouldn’t be related to Chairman Powell & the Federal Reserve.

    Nice syllogism Ted.

  • @MFO Members: The above low tier members misspelled syllogism, the correct spelling is συλλογισμός

syllogism: “An instance of a form of reasoning in which a conclusion is drawn (whether validly or not) from two given or assumed propositions (premises), each of which shares a term with the conclusion, and shares a common or middle term not present in the conclusion (e.g., all dogs are animals; all animals have four legs; therefore all dogs have four legs)”.

Apologies for my use of syllogism. Maybe “silly” would better describe some of the incoming here. Must hurt a bit to be worrying whether you can get 2.35 or 2.65 on a CD when markets are going bananas. NASDAQ up 100 / Dow up near 350 / NYMEX (oil) up 4% on the day and gold up $7. Miners are up about 15% over past month and I’ve been averaging out of my speculative short-term position in OPGSX. About half of the spec position now closed out. Static allocation remains intact - of course.

    Happy investing guys.
