this fund has been under new managment since mid 2009 and has done well since. it uses mackay shields for bonds and epoch for a global stock allocation. .81% expense ratio. it returned 14.82% last year. before i buy it i would appreciate any advise . i only buy balanced funds, and i like this one because of its global stock allocation.
You're right, it does seem to be doing much better since 2009. You should also take a look at MAPOX (Mairs & Power Balanced), which is an an excellent balanced fund.
Dear ducrow: Although Villere doesn't have a high degree of foreign equity exposure, it's , in my opinion, a far better fund. In recent years there's ben a very high correlation between U.S. and foreign equities. Over an extended period of time Villere will make more money for you. Regards, Ted
I don't immediately see no-load access to retail shares. MTOIX is no-load with a $5 million minimum. The share classes with a $2500 minimum seem to have a load (5.75%) or high expenses (2.15% +). There's an "investor" class which still has a load and seems unavailable through Schwab (my normal first-stop for checking on load- or minimum-waived shares).
Scroll down a bit to the balanced section, select the "moderate" category, then click upon the 1,3 or 5 year returns for a listing set to the returns for the period.
ducrow does not note IRA or taxable account. Regards, Catch
