April was the fourth straight positive month for the stock market, capping the best four-month start to a year for the Dow Jones Industrial Average since 1999. U.S.-stock funds in April posted an average total return of 3.6%, and a nearly 18% gain for the four months, according to Thomson Reuters Lipper data.
