19 Top Advisors Reveal Their Best ETF Strategies

FYI: Why do you use exchange-traded funds? it was supposed to be an easy question to warm up a room of some of the nation’s top financial advisors. Yet the question sparked a conversation that covered everything from tax-loss harvesting and hedging to the dangers of focusing on pure performance rather than investment outcomes.

Despite differences in approach and opinion, the 19 advisors who gathered in Barron’s offices for an ETF micro-conference last week shared one view in common: ETFs, for all of their attributes, aren’t a strategy—they are a tool that has allowed advisors to rethink how they work with clients, and how they run their businesses.
