'Wall Street Tax Act' Will Land On Main Street Investors

FYI: A 10-basis-point tax on financial transactions would have the same effect as a 31% boost in the average expense ratio 401(k) plans pay for equity funds.

Last month, Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, and Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., introduced the Wall Street Tax Act in the Senate and the House, respectively. The bill would level a tax of 10 basis points (or 0.1%) on the value of the securities transferred in financial transactions.
