FYI: Investors have been chasing stock characteristics, or so-called factors—such as smaller size, cheaper valuation, or stronger momentum—in hopes of notching market-beating returns over the long run.
While some choose their favorite factor combination and stick with it, others seek to adjust their positions tactically throughout time. It’s a risky path to take and requires a lot of expertise. But if done right, timing factors can pay off.
A new crop of exchange-traded funds is trying to do just that—with varying success.
